We are proud to share our recent partnership with Catching Lives, an independent charity that tirelessly supports individuals who are sleeping rough, homeless, or insecurely housed in Canterbury and East Kent. In this article, we'll delve into the incredible work that Catching Lives does and how we are joining hands with them to make a meaningful difference in our community.
Catching Lives: A Beacon of Hope
Catching Lives is a beacon of hope for those who have, for various reasons, fallen through the gaps in society and feel they have nowhere else to turn. Their vision aligns perfectly with our commitment to creating a more inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can contribute positively.
Immediate Respite and Support:
One of the vital services Catching Lives provides is immediate respite at their centre in Canterbury, known as the Canterbury Open Centre. This day centre serves as a sanctuary for individuals in need, offering a safe space, meals, and access to basic amenities.
Food & Drink: Catching Lives provides nutritious meals, ensuring that clients have access to breakfast and a freshly prepared two-course lunch daily. They also offer beverages and snacks throughout the day, taking care of any dietary requirements.
Laundry & Clothing: Clients can do their laundry using on-site washing machines and dryers provided by Catching Lives. Additionally, there's a clothes bank offering essential items such as warm coats, hats, gloves, and underwear.
Toilets & Showers: Catching Lives recently refurbished their toilets and showers, supplying clean towels and toiletries to maintain hygiene and dignity.
Storage & Postal Address: For those sleeping rough, access to secure storage is invaluable. The Canterbury Open Centre also acts as a postal address, essential for claiming benefits, job hunting, or registering with a GP.
Technology & Mental Health Support: The centre provides access to technology, including computers and internet access, supporting tasks like making homeless applications, job searches, and connecting with others. Moreover, they have an on-site Mental Health Specialist, Karen, available to assist with mental health concerns.
Nurse Drop-In & Healthcare Services: Catching Lives collaborates with healthcare professionals, offering regular nurse drop-in sessions and health days with various services such as podiatry and DentAid. This ensures clients can access essential medical assistance and register with a GP.
Specialist Support: Catching Lives actively connects clients with specialist agencies, including domestic abuse support and veterans' charities, ensuring that individuals receive the specific assistance they need.
